How to Choose the Right Ink Doctor Blade? 4 Tips

From printing quality, blade material, hardness, thickness to tip type, guide you to select the most suitable ink doctor blade, saving money and hassle.

1️⃣ Check printing precision

  • Fine dots → choose thin edge, high hardness blade (e.g. 0.15mm, HRC 52-56)
  • Solid color blocks → choose thick back, medium hardness (e.g. 0.20mm, HRC 48-52)

2️⃣ Select tip shape

  • General printing → rounded tip (durable, less wear on plate)
  • High definition → beveled/thin tip (clean ink scraping, slightly faster wear)

3️⃣ Determine material and hardness

  • Ordinary ink → carbon steel blade (cost-effective)
  • Corrosive ink → stainless steel or coated blade (rust-proof and durable)
  • Hardness is not always higher: too hard damages plate, too soft leaves ink

4️⃣ Match thickness

  • Thin plate / fine lines → 0.10-0.15mm
  • General packaging printing → 0.20mm
  • Long runs or rough substrates → 0.25-0.30mm

💡 Customer tip: Test with samples first, record wear and print quality, then buy in bulk for best results.
